Elements recovered include numerous vertebrae and portions of the forelimbs and hindlimbs, representing a minimum of six individuals.
Thus, the different morphological evolutionary paths of dromaeosaurids lineages seem to indicate different locomotor and predatory specializations.Recent discoveries of new oviraptorosaurs revealed their high diversity from the Cretaceous Period in Asia and North America.
Importantly, this is the first specimen with associated mandibles and postcrania of a caenagnathid from the Dinosaur Park Formation, allowing for unambiguous referral of mandibles to this taxon. Moreover, they share the elongation of distal phalanges, which is a feature related to the capacity of grasping. Improved representation of the pelvis allows for identification of osteological correlates for caenagnathid pelvic musculature based on extant phylogenetic bracketing and direct observation of muscle attachment sites. The coexistence of three taxa was apparently facilitated by differences in both adult body size and functional morphology of the dentary and pes, which suggests that caenagnathids minimized niche overlap rather than subdividing niche space. Phalanges III-1 and III-3 are very slender elements as iliac process of the pubis is broken off, and the ischiadcess is reduced to a thickened lip. The second analysis showed that eudromaeosaurs and unenlagiines have similar phalangeal proportions, including the elongation of distal phalanges. Bagaraatan represents the Tetanurae and displays some synapomorphies with the Avetheropoda, however, incompleteness of the skeleton of B. ostromi does not allow to determine its more precise affiliation. Among modern birds, the globally distributed guinea fowl (Numida meleagris) is characterized by having a cranial bony crest (overlain by keratin), but surprisingly little is known about its development. However, derived Laurasian dromaeosaurids (eudromaeosaurs) differ from unenlagiines in having a shorter metatarsus and pedal phalanx II-1, and more ginglymoid articular surfaces in metatarsals and pedal phalanges.
Blog at WordPress.com. Segnosauridae—a new family of theropods from the Late Sternberg, C.M. Here we describe a partial skeleton, ROM VP 65884, from the Hell Creek Formation (Montana, USA), and through morphological and phylogenetic comparisons identify it as belonging to Caenagnathidae, and probably referable to Anzu wyliei. Right frontal in dorsal (A), medial (B), anterior (C), posterior (D), ventral (E), and lateral (F) views.Crested theropod dinosaur Elmisaurus rarus Osmólska, 1981, MPC-D 102/007 from Nemegt Formation (Upper Cretaceous), Western Sayr of Nemegt locality, Mongolia. The posterior hemicondyles of the distal end take the form of thick ridges and are both oriented obliquely, with the medial one extending proximolaterally and the lateral one proximomedially. Incorporation of the new material and taxonomic framework into a phylogenetic analysis drastically improves our understanding of the relationships between caenagnathines, and sheds light on the evolution of body size in caenagnathids and its role in their diversification. The taxonomy of caenagnathids from the Dinosaur Park Formation of Alberta, Canada, has remained problematic because of incomplete, partial skeletons that do not overlap anatomically.
Among the putative morphotypes, variation in correlates of pelvic muscles and proportions of pelvic bones may have had functional implications, based on patterns in extant birds.
On a new specimen of the Lower Cretaceous theropod Perle, A. The abundance of juveniles indicates high mortality of juveniles or a catastrophic mass mortality of a population with a high proportion of juveniles. Size comparisons among oviraptorisaurians show that the Caenagnathidae vary much more widely in size than the Oviraptoridae.Avimimids were unusual, birdlike oviraptorosaurs from the Late Cretaceous of Asia. Unenlagiines and eudromaeosaurs have morphological differences in the hindlimb, which reflect different locomotor and predatory habits.
