Hmmmmm. 1 It's like an urban cross between Romeo and Juliet and Bonnie and Clyde.A quick read, but definitely not an easy one. One thing about this book that I really appreciated was that Goines gave a raw, gritty, unfiltered view into 1970s low socioeconomic urban life. Donald Goines was a beast.

Donald's storytelling is fantastic and I can't wait to read his other stories. Wish there was a sequel so I could see what happened after the end of the book.

What a sad and tragic 70s ghetto love story! Donald Goines wrote about his own struggle...and that of many many others...myself included. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. This is a fast moving story that exposes some of the harsh realities of children left to fend for themselves. I highly recommend to readers who want a taste of the urban jungle...So you know this lost black girl will have a bad end before you ever crack the spine.

The only complaint I have regarding his writing is that most of his books end with un-resolved issues or situations. Mr. Goines was truly a master writer and storyteller that was taken from this world way too soon.After having read Dopefiend, I wanted to read another book by Goines. Did not take me long to finish this story, it is very intriguing well written and seems very realistic.
